Pastor * Outside Perspective * Encouragement
Sometimes you just need somebody who understands a pastor’s life—but isn’t part of your church.
I love pastors. I’ve been one. I’ve lived through growth, budgets, hiring and firing, staff and board issues, conflict, church planting, merger, and succession—and plenty I wish I’d handled differently.
I want to put that experience to use helping another pastor lead well and finish strong. Whatever you’re facing, we’ll just talk it through.
Where I might be helpful
Pastoral leadership brings questions that can be hard to work through with your staff or board. That might include:
- Money and growth — deciding whether to spend, save, cut, build, borrow, or raise more money; weighing another hire; and discerning whether you’re stepping out in faith or taking a bad risk.
- Staff and people — knowing when to let someone go, having a hard conversation you’ve been avoiding, and leading with grace while holding people accountable.
- Boards, conflict, and hard decisions — sorting out healthy disagreement from something more serious, making the call when everyone has an opinion, and deciding whether to confront, wait, or let something go.
- You, your family, and the weight of leadership — recognizing a hard season or burnout, keeping ministry pressure from spilling into your marriage and family, and finding someone to talk to when you can’t talk to your staff or board.
- Succession, retirement, and what’s next — knowing when to think seriously about succession, preparing financially for retirement, and figuring out who you are when you’re no longer the senior pastor.
How I Approach Coaching
Talk it through. Sometimes an outside perspective is what you need when a decision feels complicated or the weight of leadership feels heavy.
I’m not looking for a job, title, or paycheck. I just love pastors, and I don’t want decades of experience—good decisions, bad decisions, and a few scars—to go to waste if it can help another pastor.
A Little About My Experience
I bring more than 40 years of experience. After more than 30 years in the trenches as a pastor, I’ve faced many of the same realities you may be navigating now.
That includes church growth, budgets, hiring and firing, staff and board issues, conflict, church planting, merger, and succession. There’s also plenty I wish I’d handled differently. Those lessons are part of what I bring to the conversation.
