Geoff Surratt

Pastor * Executive Leader * Author

I’ve spent 44 years in ministry as a pastor, executive leader, consultant, and author. I’ve led churches through growth and change, built and restructured teams, helped develop multisite churches, and worked with pastors and church leaders across the U.S. and Europe.

I’ve also made plenty of mistakes along the way.

At this stage of ministry, I enjoy helping pastors think through the decisions and challenges that are difficult to work through when you’re sitting in the middle of them.

Where I might be helpful

I’m probably most helpful when you’re dealing with something that doesn’t have an obvious answer.

That might include:

  • Leadership and organizational decisions — structure, strategy, priorities, roles, or figuring out what needs to change.
  • Staff and team challenges — difficult staff situations, team structure, hiring, accountability, or building a healthier leadership culture.
  • Church growth and multisite — navigating growth, removing organizational barriers, adding locations, or dealing with the complexity growth creates.
  • Change and transitions — leading through significant change, navigating a new season, or figuring out what’s next for you or your church.

You don’t have to fit your situation into one of these categories. Bring whatever you’re trying to figure out.

How I Approach Coaching

I don’t have a coaching curriculum, and I’m not going to give you a leadership formula.

You set the agenda.

My job is to listen, ask questions, offer perspective from what I’ve learned, and tell you what I actually think. Sometimes I’ll have experience that directly relates to what you’re facing. Sometimes I’ll simply help you look at the situation from a different angle.

I’m not interested in telling you how to run your church. I want to help you think more clearly about the church and leadership God has entrusted to you.

A Little About My Experience

I’ve spent 44 years in full-time ministry as a lead pastor, executive pastor, family pastor, consultant, coach, and ministry leader. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in some remarkable churches and organizations—and to learn from some exceptional leaders.

I was part of the early multisite movement, overseeing campus expansion at Seacoast Church and later Saddleback Church. I oversaw multisite and church planting for Saddleback Church, and I served as Managing Director of Exponential. I have written or co-written four books, including The Multisite Church Revolution and Together, and for more than 15 years I have coached church leaders across the U.S. and Europe on multiplication, strategy, structure, and leadership.

Those experiences gave me opportunities I never expected when I started in ministry. They also gave me plenty of opportunities to get things wrong. Both matter to MinistryTogether.

What Coaching With Me Looks Like

We’ll start with a conversation about what you’re facing and what you’re hoping coaching might provide.

If it seems like I’m the right person to help, we’ll decide together what makes sense from there.

The goal isn’t to create another meeting on your calendar. It’s to give you a regular outside voice who knows enough about you and your ministry to help you think through what’s actually happening.

Not Sure I’m the Right Coach?

That’s okay.

MinistryTogether includes experienced ministry leaders with different backgrounds, strengths, and perspectives. Take a look at the other coaches and find someone whose experience might be a better fit for what you’re facing.
